We are sure that you are all missing the same kind of things we are at Hartwell with the ongoing pandemic. Freedom of movement, days out and above all that very quintessential English past time of The Countryside Pub.
Think back to those wonderful walks along towpaths, strolls through woodland and a short drive across the hills and valleys of our wonderful English countryside. And of course the welcoming sight of a country pub sign that appears in the distance. Sustenance, log fires in Winter, good conversation, maybe some admiring looks across the bar area at your Hartwell shirt or jacket?
So let’s get ready for the return of those wonderful occasions as we look at some of the best country pubs to visit in Wiltshire (after Lockdown of course).
Well Known Pubs
We will start at The Beckford Arms, at Fonthill Gifford. Just 20 drive mins from Stonehenge so a comfortable stroll for country lovers. Lots of local produce and some of their own home grown produce features in a hearty menu with a great wine list.
The Swan at Enford may be small in size but as an award winning country pub, it’s big in stature. Awarded British Pub Champion by the Countryside Alliance in 2017. Nestled on the bank of the Avon, it features pub classics and local ales.
The Great Western at Corsham is a timeless traditional local, with a warm welcome and well kept ales. Not fancy, but great as a place to rest your bones and have a chat and a snack. The additional bonus is that a Hartwell stockist is very close by so there is always a great opportunity to call into Wadswick Country Store and refresh the wardrobe.
Pretty And Gastro
Sometimes a little more is needed as the lovely country walk may be part of a special occasion. It could be a convenient excuse to get out in your new best country outfit!
The White Hart nestles in the pretty and peaceful hamlet of Ford in the midst of stunning historic woodland, We think it’s one of the areas prettiest pubs, and a seat outdoors by the Bybrook River with a local ale or cider is much sought after. They are also renowned for their superb steaks.
A historic 16th century coaching inn, sitting in the village of Whiteparish The Kings Head is the perfect setting for a refined evening meal in a relaxed atmosphere.
Home to Betony, the fine dining establishment of renowned British Chef Matthew Tompkinson. British produce, fish, meats and game are featured across the menu and a fine selection of wines can be enjoyed.
The perfect end to a day rambling across Wiltshire, and why not top the Hartwell shirt or blouse with one of our chic jackets to make it a real occasion.
Time Please
It’s time at the bar for this blog and there are of course dozens more we could have mentioned, but we hope this has brightened your day with thoughts of better times to come. Be sure to check out our great range of print-inspired women’s country shirts before you go.
Get the wardrobe updated as the good times will surely be back. Feel free to send any photos showing off the Hartwell clothing you already have, we might even feature it in our special Spotted in Harwell section of the website!
